As a leader, I admit to the undying hope of entering a hard conversation believing it will end in a win-win situation.
All parties leave happy.
Logic takes the front seat, pride takes a backseat and everyone willingly comes together for the best solution.
But, in the heat of the moment…
Logic hops in back, pride calls shotgun, and each person’s ‘best solution’ is totally subjective.
I continue to learn… not only does ‘win-win’ rarely happen but it’s rarely the best outcome. Why?

I can see that it’s hard, but you are teaching me a lot about how to deal with those kind of situations, and I think you do it quite well.

Well, there are certainly more important things than everyone being happy, of course I hope for the very same thing. Happiness shouldn’t be our goal, what is up with that?

Yes, Roger. The outcome would be subjective. But hopefully it’s an outcome based upon a higher elevation than the individual players’ perspective.
